March luncheon

FRIENDSHIP FORCE MARCH LUNCHEON Saturday, March 10, 11:30 am, Hotel Eleganté THE STORY OF THE RUDOLFO ANAYA MONUMENT SPEAKER: DIANE LAYDEN, Ph.D Dianne Layden is a writer and retired college professor in Albuquerque. She came to New Mexico in 1969 to complete her doctorate in American Studies. Her research led her to an interest in public monuments, particularly those that celebrate author Rudolfo Anaya. Anaya, of course, is the author of Bless Me, Utlima, first published in 1972. Last month saw the Albuquerque premier of this class tale, told as an opera. Dr. Layden’s topic will be the Bless Me, Ultima Landscape built in 2007 in Santa Rosa. As Santa Rosa is the setting for Anaya’s landmark work, it was fitting that this public monument is located there. Sculptures by renowned New Mexico artist Sonny Rivera are featured in the park. Ms. Layden will present an overview of the novel and show us photos of the entire monument. ———————————————————————————– There is still time to renew your Friendship Force membership for 2018.
